Photography

Katherine studied MFA Photography at Ulster University, and her work has been exhibited at Belfast Exposed, the Royal Ulster Academy annual exhibition (where it won the Bronze award for best student work), in China, the USA, and at various places in her home county, Devon, including The Finch Foundry and the Plough Arts Centre.

As a creative and fine art photographer, Katherine is concerned with the small connections between humans and nature, the transient and incandescent moments we stumble upon when we concentrate on looking, and the fragments of light that catch us by surprise.

She primarily works in small print and photo book format, with her signature and award winning work, A Bird in the Hand presented as a special edition moleskin journal. This work can be previewed here.

Other works include a small print exhibition called Illuminated, which was an exploration of nature in the darkest hours of the night, and how the act of photographing allows a deep level of mindfulness and connection, and an ongoing body of work, A Light in the Window, which is somewhat of a sequel to A bird in the Hand, examining the experience of grief and how connections with nature can both highlight and heal.
